Things You Should Never Bring To A Concert

By Gretchen Kernbach on May 9, 2016

Although there is a (petty) need to “look cool” and “bring cool things” to concerts, you should really only carry the bare necessities. There are some differences when it comes to an indoor concert versus an outdoor one, but generally what you should not bring to one, you should not bring to the other. The same goes with a country concert versus a heavy metal one. You are there to listen to music, not lose precious items or go to jail.

Weapons

The first, and most obvious, item you should never bring to a concert is any sort of weapon. Do not know why I even need to mention this, but you know, people today are unpredictable. Now I am not saying you plan on bringing an AR15, but accidentally leaving a pocket knife in your jeans will not turn out so well either.

You are there to listen to music, not mug random citizens. If you happen to be caught with any firearm or blade, you will 100 percent be escorted out of the venue. And most likely banned.

Animals

Secondly, bringing animals to concerts is not a bright idea either. Regardless if it is a dog, cat, ferret, bunny, fish, snake, or horse, leave the animal at home. This is a no brainer for an indoor concert, but do not overlook an outdoor venue and think it is okay. Animals poop, and if you are busy jamming out to your favorite song, nine times out of 10 you will ignore your pet’s excretion. Then someone will step on it and it will all go downhill from there.

So, just don’t bring pets.

Outside Food/Drinks

Third, outside food or drink will not be permitted anywhere. Therefore, do not spend $14 on a burrito with chips and guac from Chipotle and try to bring it into the venue. Your soul will break in half when you have to throw it all away before entering the site.

This also goes for alcohol, you crazy kids. Sneaking in a mixed drink in a McDonald’s cup will do you no good. Congratulations, they may not know there is alcohol inside, but it is an outside drink so you still need to toss it. The only exceptions concert arenas make are to things like baby food. Which brings me to my next point.

Babies

Do not bring a baby to a concert. That is all.

Backpacks/Duffel Bags

In addition, backpacks and duffel bags are not permitted in concert venues. Why would you need them anyway? What are you keeping in there? They are just chunky items which you will have to carry around all night. Instead, bring a small cross-body purse to carry your phone and some money. Boys, a wallet and some pockets should get the trick done.

Signs

Even if you are seeing Justin Bieber, and he must know your phone number, signs are still not a good idea to bring to concerts. It will be fun to hold it for approximately two minutes. Other than that, it will get heavy and block people’s view from behind you. Then you get tired arms and angry people: not worth it.

On the other hand, if you came to the concert to protest an important issue, it is still a no. Take your viewpoints to the White House, not a concert.

Expensive Clothing/Jewelry

Any expensive items of clothing should not be worn to a concert. Ladies, heels are definitely a no-go. Falling on your face is neither attractive nor fun. Any sort of sneaker or flipflop is an appropriate, alternative choice of shoe wear. In addition, leave pricey jewelry at home, as well as largely sized jewelry.

According to hubpages.com:

“I’ve seen all kinds of jewelry at concerts, but generally a rule to go by is the SMALLER the better. Wearing huge hoop earrings or necklaces so long they touch your belly button is not a very good idea at a concert. They could easily be ripped out or get caught on someone else. Unless you’re planning on not going into the crowd at all, I’d stay away from such things.”

Illegal Drugs

Another no brainer, like the weapons, illegal drugs are probably not the best thing to bring to a concert. Again, do not know why someone would, but people do. If you want to get arrested and go to jail for a while, be my guest. Chances are when you whip out the drug, other people will notice and report you. Keep in mind where you are.

Debit and Credit Cards

On a lighter note, avoid bringing debit/credit cards to concerts.

Examiner.com had this to say on the subject.

“Some may find it easier to use a card instead of cash. While vendors don’t normally take cards, there is almost always an ATM at concert events. Their usage rates can be quite high though. Who wants to stand in line to get cash so they can stand in line to buy a beer? By bringing cash, you are more likely to stay on a budget. Lastly, bringing a card and losing it, would mean more stress than bringing cash and losing that.”

So there you have it, whether you are seeing Beyoncé, Little Big Town, Wiz Khalifa, or The Wiggles, do not attempt to bring said items there. So much can go wrong.
