While being a “broke college student” may be the cliche at university, there’s no reason for you to live that truth. There are a number of jobs you can juggle along with a full course load, homework and a social life.

Here are some of the highest paid part-time jobs for college students that you should look into for the next school year.

1. Dog Walking or Pet Sitting. Lots of students have dogs and may not be able to get back from classes to take them for a walk during the day, in addition to other local professionals with canine companions. If you’ve got a more flexible schedule and have a longer break between classes in the afternoon, dog walking may be a lucrative part-time job to consider.

You can also look into pet sitting, as students may travel home on weekends or for breaks and need someone to look after their animals. If you’re going to pet sit in your apartment or house, you’ll want to make sure your lease allows pets; otherwise you may run into some trouble. Obviously, a love of dogs and animals is required for you to want to consider these part-time jobs.

2. Bartending. This is a great job for college students since working hours typically start in the evening, which is when your classes are likely to be done for the day. The pay can vary depending on the bar, but you can also make a nice amount in tips, which will supplement whatever your salary is. Additionally, living on or near a college campus, there are bound to be a number of bars around so you have the ability to work close to school and your dorm, apartment, or house.

3. Tutoring. If you’re really good at a certain subject or excelled in a specific class, it may be beneficial to offer tutoring services to other students. You can tutor other college students or offer tutoring to local high school students in a particular subject. If you’re interested in tutoring other college students, your university may offer those resources on campus and you can look into being employed by a tutoring center rather than trying to find students to tutor on your own.

Hourly pay for tutoring can be quite high and you can schedule tutoring sessions on weekends, evenings, or whenever it’s convenient for you and the person you’re tutoring, which is why it’s a good part-time job for college students.

4. Waitering/Waitressing. There are tons of restaurants, bars, and other eateries across and around school campuses, which means there’s a need for waiters and waitresses. While your starting salary may not be much, you’ll also get to earn tips, and you can probably schedule your shifts around your classes each semester. If you’re really good at your job, your tips can be substantial; plus, you’ll get good people experience from the position.

5. Babysitting/Nannying. If you like kids, nannying or babysitting can be a great paying part-time job to have during college. Obviously, you’ll have to make sure your babysitting/nannying duties work out with your class schedule and you’ll want to be sure you can reliably get to where you need to go, so if the family lives further away, you may need to look into getting a car. That being said, nannying can be a great experience and pay really well so you may want to consider finding some babysitting gigs.

6. Uber Driving. If you have a car on campus, becoming an Uber driver can be a really well-paying and flexible job. Uber works by connecting drivers with those who need a ride through an app or website, letting each see the other’s profile before the ride takes place. You’ll be transferred money online before you pick up your passenger so you don’t have to worry about having change or depositing a check.

To be an Uber driver, you have to be over 21 and meet Uber’s insurance, criminal record check, and vehicle requirements. As an Uber driver, you can pretty much make your own hours, though the busiest times to drive are typically early in the morning, later in the evenings, Friday nights, and weekends. The flexibility means you’ll easily be able to juggle your class schedule with this high-paying part-time job.

A knowledge of your area or being GPS-savvy is a good idea as your passengers will count on you to get them where you need to go. As a bonus, you’ll also really get to know your campus and the areas nearby as you drive around.

So if you’re tired of ramen and don’t want to be a broke college student anymore, consider looking into these high-paid part-time jobs; and even if none of these positions work out for you, there are lots of other paid, part-time opportunities on and off-campus you can check out to make some money.
